Dodge City - Darlene Frances "Hessman" Hooker, 84, died March 13, 2023 at her home in Dodge City. She was born on August 4, 1938 in rural Ford County, Kansas the daughter of William and Gladys (Trent) Hessman.

She married Clifton Hooker on August 5, 1956 in Dodge City, he survives. Mrs. Hooker was a homemaker and very devoted mother and grandmother doing everything she could to take care of her family. She was also a very devoted and active member of her church. Darlene was always the first person to volunteer for any project that the church needed help with. She loved teaching children about the Bible and was a Bible Scholar herself. Mrs. Hooker loved to decorate cakes as well as raise flowers and gardening and sewing in her spare time.

She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Dodge City. She also taught Girls in Action as well as Acteens for many years.

She is survived by her husband Clifton of the home; two daughters Sharon Hooker of Wellington, Kansas; Rhonda Harper of Wichita, Kansas; as well as three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Ruby Cook of Dodge City; Sandy Salmans and husband Arlin of Cimarron as well as one brother Frank Hessman and wife Sharon of Eugene, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Robert Hessman, three sisters Rosemary Rinne, Wilma McCollough and Lillan Fitzsimmons.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Monday March 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Brian Kimball presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with the family receiving friends from 1PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
