Obituary

David Lee Heytens, 64, died August 2, 2023 at his home in Dodge City.  He was born on March 14, 1959 in Los Angeles, California the son of Leo Eugene and Judith Gay (Peterson) Heytens.

David's early childhood was spent in the Los Angeles area.  His family moved to Tennessee when he was five and later settled in Rienzi, Mississippi where he completed his education.  When David was a young adult, he moved to Hutchinson.  It was there that he met Bonnie Barnes.  The two were married on May 23, 1981. After their marriage, they lived in Hutchinson and Arlington before moving to Dodge City.  David worked in the farming industry for 35 years.

Fishing and taking care of his yard, especially his rose bushes, were two things David enjoyed.  He also was a jack of all trades and liked to work on his truck.  David also could be found watching history documentaries and old westerns.  David loved spending time with his family and friends.

David is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Dodge City; four children, James Heytens of Dodge City, Jon (San) Heytens of Dodge City, Havilah Stude (Blaine) of Copeland, and Karen Heytens (Nic Harms) of Dodge City; his father, Leo; eight grandchildren; one brother, Bill; and five sisters, Jeanette, Mary, Leah, Esther, and Becky. He is preceded in death by his mother and an infant brother, Timmy.

A private family service will be held at a later date.  There is no visitation as cremation has taken place.
