DODGE CITY - Delite Rumsey, 94, died December 1, 2014 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. She was born on March 5, 1920 at Centerview, the daughter of Thomas and Gertrude (Derley) Welsch.
On December 21, 1943 she married George Riley and moved to Wilroads Gardens. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1957. She later married Albert Rumsey on December 21, 1963. He preceded her in death on December 2, 2003.
Delite worked in the Wilroads Gardens and Dodge City Schools from 1959 until her retirement in 1983. She enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and organ, and visiting with friends and neighbors. A great lover of animals, she took in numerous strays over the years. Delite strived and succeeded to be nice to everyone she met, stemming from a belief that to start the day with a smile made the entire day better.
Delite is survived by her daughter, Twila Blacklidge and husband Ed of Augusta; two step-daughters, Donna McLemore and husband Leland of Redding, California and Vicki Walters and husband Ron of Julliett, Georgia; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Riley
Graveside service will be held at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Dodge on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 1:00 PM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Dodge . Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from Noon to 8:00 PM.
