Dodge City - Della Marie Johnson, 68, died November 28, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas. She was born on June 6, 1954 in Water Town, South Dakota, the daughter of Sidney Laverne and Ada Laura (Christian) Ward.

She married Gerald Paul Johnson on January 4, 1975; he preceded her in death on March 15, 2004. Della worked Broce construction and USD 443 off and on throughout the years and then stopped working construction and worked at USD 443. Later on she ended up doing two jobs at the school and working at Boothill casino in Dodge City until she retired from the school in 2014 and then retiring from the casino in 2015.

She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She loved to play cards with them. In her spare time she loved to crochet.

She is survived by four children, Paul Johnson (Aimee) of Dodge City, KS, Amy Johnson of Dodge City, KS, Jeff Johnson of Smithville, MO, and bonus daughter Camber Isenbart of Kearney, MO; four siblings, Carl Ward, Kevin Ward, Steven Ward, and Christie Metcalf; nine grandchildren, Matthew Johnson-Kiehl, Tyler Johnson, Lahnaya Boardman, Kyrstin Isenbart, Sydney Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Annaliese Ferrell, Orion Ferrell, and Alexander Ferrell; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Johnson of Dodge City, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, and a brother, Dennis Ward.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 10:00 AM with Ryan Ausmus presiding.  Burial will follow at Greencrest Memorial Garden in Dodge City, Kansas.
