Derek Garcia, 25, passed away on June 19, 2024, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Derek was born on November 21, 1998, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Erika Garcia and Hector Marquez.
Derek's education took place within the USD 443 school district. He attended Central Elementary School, Comanche Intermediate School, Dodge City Middle School, and Dodge City High School, where he graduated in 2017.
Derek attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He loved sharing what he was learning from the Bible and his heartfelt beliefs with those around him. Derek had a profound love for his family and cherished every moment spent with them, especially his beloved son. An avid outdoorsman, Derek found peace and joy in the mountains of Colorado, where exploring the great outdoors was his passion. Forever our mountain hero, Derek's adventurous spirit and love for nature were evident to all who knew him.
On May 12, 2022, Derek married the love of his life, Mirely Rangel. Their bond was a testament to true love and partnership. Together, they welcomed their son, Derek Eli Garcia Rangel, and were eagerly anticipating the arrival of their second child, baby Devin Garcia Rangel, who is on the way. Derek's love for his family was immeasurable, and he embraced his roles as a husband and father with unwavering devotion. His greatest joy came from the laughter and love shared within his family.
Derek's hobbies were diverse and reflected his zest for life. He enjoyed woodworking, gaming, and hunting, and he had a special fondness for his truck. His pets, Mia and Ace, were like children to him, and he cared for them deeply, finding solace in their companionship.
Derek leaves behind his loving wife, Mirely Rangel; their son, Derek Eli Garcia Rangel; and their baby on the way, Devin Garcia Rangel. He is also survived by his mother, Erika Garcia; his father, Hector Marquez; his siblings, Eric and Brayden Garcia; his maternal grandparents, Maria and Hector Garcia; his maternal uncles, Hector Garcia Jr., Omar Garcia, and Jovanny Garcia; his best friend, Chris Ahumada; and many extended family members and friends. Derek's beloved dogs, Mia and Ace, will also miss him dearly.
A funeral service to celebrate Derek's life will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Dodge City on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 2:00 PM, with Elder Josh Reeves presiding. A gathering will follow the service for those who wish to attend at Rancho El Palomino. There will be no burial. Visitation will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, July 5, 2024, from noon to 8 PM. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
During this incredibly difficult time, the family kindly requests privacy and greatly appreciates the outpouring of love and support from the community.
