IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dixie
Koehn
July 23, 1935 – November 8, 2023
On July 23, 1935, our dear sister and aunt, Dixie Lou Koehn, was born to William P. and Frances (Koehn) Koehn in Montezuma, Kansas, during the Depression years. Times were not easy growing up on a dairy farm. She was the oldest in our family and together with her sisters tried to help train her younger brothers! Dixie attended Copeland Public Schools. On May 8, 1947, she was baptized into the Montezuma Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by Minister Jesse Johnson remaining faithful to her vows until God called her home early in the morning of November 8, 2023, with her family by her bedside in Bethel Home, Montezuma, where she had been a resident since June, 2020, reaching the age of 88. She appreciated the loving care she received while living there and we as her family thank all her caregivers.
Dixie worked at Bethel Home during her teenage years, later deciding to enter the medical field. She attended Dodge City Community College and the University of Kansas, where she majored in Physical Therapy. After graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in 1971, she began her career in the Physical Therapy Department at St. Catherine's Hospital in Garden City, becoming Director of the Department and serving in that capacity many years. She was the Physical Therapy consultant for Bethel Home and also taught Restorative Aid classes various places. Dixie and the other career girls living in Garden City enjoyed many good times together. After Dixie retired she moved to Montezuma owning the Women's Exercise Center where she made many friends and helped the community stay
fit.
She loved to read, keeping up with the times and discussing issues of the day. Dixie enjoyed traveling, touring the Holy Lands twice, bus trips and road trips with her friends. Her life was a life well-lived, kindly touching many lives with her expertise and her loving care. We as her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews appreciated Dixie and what she did for us. She was very generous helping us financially when asked, never refusing anyone. The nieces have many good memories of sleepovers, shopping trips and outings with their Aunt Dixie. She took a special interest in each of our lives and we could tell she loved each of us. We were her family. Being single all her life did not stop her from enjoying life to the fullest. Through God's grace she was faithful and we want to meet her in heaven.
Those who remain with fond memories are her siblings and their families, Virginia and husband, Keith Koehn, Montezuma, Merriann Schmidt, Halstead, and husband, Mervin Schmidt, Montezuma, Merle and Delores Koehn, Jerry and Jane Koehn, Montezuma, Evan and Mary Koehn, Scotia, Nebraska, brother in law, Glenn Koehn, Bethel Home, Montezuma, thirty nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and friends. Her parents, one brother, Devern and wife, Lucille Koehn, and one sister, Glennis Koehn preceded her in death.
