IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald "Don"
Dean Koehn
July 29, 1944 – November 20, 2025
My husband, our father and grandpa, Donald “Don” Dean Koehn, was born on July 29, 1944 to Pete BJ & Pearl (Smith) Koehn in Garden City, Kansas. He quietly slipped away from us in the early morning hours on November 20, 2025 at St. Francis hospital Wichita, Kansas. He reached the age of 81 years
His childhood was spent in the Cimarron area. He completed 8 grades of school, the first four were at Cimarron and the last four were at Montezuma. He was baptized on December 14, 1958, by Min. Samuel Jantzen at Cimarron, Kansas, remaining faithful to his vows. He spent two years in voluntary service at Tucumcari, New Mexico, making lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
He married me, Marlene Koehn, on September 14, 1969, at Cimarron, Kansas, by Min. Curt Ensz. They enjoyed 56 years of married life. They started life in Montezuma and lived in the area for the rest of his life. Two boys and three girls were born to this union.
He provided for us by working at Security Elevator, farming and helping his dad with pigs and cattle. Also he did custom hay baling in the community. He enjoyed driving in the country delivering mail for 20 plus years. This is where he became known as “Mailman Don”.
We especially enjoyed a family vacation to North Dakota and Canada. Also we recall fond memories of other trips to see family. He loved us and enjoyed seeing us come over and watching the grandchildren. We also remember his easy going nature and him being easy to get along with. He really enjoyed being around people and especially ushering at our Church.
Those left to cherish fond memories are his wife Marlene, his children Sharee and husband Jeff Jantz, Craig and wife Roxane, Michelle, Sheila, Chad and wife Rachel all of Montezuma; 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two sisters, Verna Koehn and Velda and husband Duane Ratzlaff all of Cimarron; and family friend, Debbie Isaac; six sisters-in-law; and seven brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents and parents in-law; two brothers-in-law; and five sisters-in-law.
Funeral service will be held at Montezuma Mennonite Church on Monday, November 24, 2025 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Montezuma Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Sunday, November 23, 2025 from noon to 5:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home or Montezuma Fire Department in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
