DONALD D. FOWLER
CIMARRON
Donald D. Fowler, 80, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Trinity Manor Nursing Home at Dodge City. He was born on September 17, 1928 at Dodge City, the son of George William and Mae L. (Dooley) Fowler. He grew up in Dodge City and Wilroads Gardens and graduated from Ford High School. Donald attended Dodge City Community College and later Ft. Hays where he received his masters degree in political science. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. On October 11, 1958 he married Cheryl Behrends at Randall, Kansas. She survives. His teaching career started in Minneola and McDonald prior to his marriage and after marriage to Delphos where he taught and coached for 11 years and then in Ness City for 2 years. Donald then moved to the family farm near Kalvesta where he farmed and also taught at Ingalls.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Dodge City and the Cimarron Golf Club of Cimarron. Survivors include his wife Cheryl Fowler of Cimarron; a son George Fowler of Montezuma; two daughters, Karen Beckerman and husband Mark of Hoyt; and Donna Dixon and husband Kent of Warroad, Minnesota; four sisters, Mariellen Rhoades of Hamilton; Evelyn Sutton of Homestead, Florida; Georganne Hiser of Coppell, Texas; and Colleen Riegel of Great Bend; and nine grandchildren. Mr. Fowler was preceded in death by his parents and a brother George W. Fowler, Jr. on September 7, 1961.
Funeral service will be held at Cimarron United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 10:30 AM and military graveside rites by Julius F. Troehmel Post # 269, American Legion at Ford Cemetery of Ford, Kansas on Thursday July 2, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Kent Little presiding. Visitatation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Cimarron from Noon to 8:00 PM with family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the Cimarron Golf Course or to Gray County EMS, both in care of SWaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron.
