Dodge City - Donald Dean Hayes, 85, died October 1, 2018 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.  He was born on January 24, 1933 at Esban, Kansas the son of Fred and Mabel (Healey) Hayes.

Donald married Donna Beth Lehr on July 26, 1953, and to this union three children were born. He later married Olivia Laing on September 26, 1973 in Dodge City, she preceded him in death on February 8, 2002. Mr. Hayes worked as a truck driver for Isaac Trucking Company for several years. Donald enjoyed spending time with his family in his spare time.

He was a member of the American GI Forum in Dodge City.

Donald is survived by seven sons Marion Hayes and wife Kathy; Robert Hayes and wife Sherie; Ronald Hayes and wife Paula; Victor Ortiz Jr. and wife Mary; Javier Ortiz and wife Hope; Ruban Ortiz and wife Rosalee; Mario Ortiz and wife Letitia. He is also survived by five daughters Martha Rubio and husband Steve; Renee Johnson; Lucinda Blea and husband Ronald; Tedi Ortiz-Ontiberos and husband Bobby; Consuela Mitchell and husband Tony. He is also survived by 38 Grandchildren, 77 Great Grandchildren and 8 Great Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents one brother Robert, one son Marty Ortiz and grandchildren Tabitha Blea, Ruban Ortiz, Matthew Ortiz and two great granddaughters Jemma Ortiz and Starlet Steele.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Saturday October  6, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 8:00PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to American GI Forum Scholarship Fund  in care of the funeral home.
