Obituary

Cimarron - Donna Burns, 77, died May 2, 2012 at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City. She was born on January 21, 1935 18 miles north and four miles west of Cimarron, the daughter of Otis and Gladys (Ball) Bond.

Donna moved near Lawrence as a child. At the age of 12, when the dust storms ended, she moved back to the Kalvesta area. She graduated from Cimarron High School in 1953 then attended and graduated from what is now Southern Nazarene University. Donna married Jerald Burns on May 31, 1956 between her junior and senior years of college. He survives. They lived and farmed in the Cimarron area for 42 years retiring and moving to Cimarron about eight years ago. This year on May 31, they would have been married 56 years. Donna loved to quilt and each one of her grandchildren received a quilt from her. Providing Sunday dinners to her family was always a special time for Donna.

She was a member of the Cimarron Church of the Nazarene.

In addition to her husband, Donna is survived by one daughter, Darlene Coffey and husband Jon of Cimarron; one son, Steve Burns and wife Shannan of Cimarron; six grandchildren, Brandon Coffey and wife Brooke of Gardner, Nicole Jeter and husband Rance of Cimarron, Alexa Peterson and husband Adam of Hays, and Avery, Ashtynn, and Audra Burns of Cimarron; two brothers, Rev. Richard Bond and wife Sherry of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Larry Bond of Manhattan Beach, California; three sisters, Arlene Snowbarger of Emporia, Eleanor Hoover of Dallas, Texas, and Maxine Neufeld and husband Melvin of Garden City.She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be held at Cimarron Church of the Nazarene on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Randall Harrell and Rev. Richard Bond presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Cimarron on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from noon to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Oklahoma City Compassionate Ministries in care of the funeral home.
