Doris Ida (Walker) Slaven, 75, died Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Good Samaritan Center in Dodge City. She was born on September 22, 1933 in Lakin, the daughter of Leslie and Opal (Strode) Walker.
Doris attended grade school in Grant County before moving to Wesken. She graduated from Weskan Consolidated School on May 18, 1951. On May 20, 1951, she married Paul Slaven in Weskan. He survives. Doris and Paul lived in Weskan, Palco, and Sharon Springs before moving to Cimarron in 1991.
She was a member of Cimarron Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her husband, Paul, Doris is survived by one son, Greg Slaven and wife Wrenn of Cimarron; two daughters, Diane Connally and husband Keith of Olathe and Shannon Kozlowski and husband Mitch of Wichita; four sisters, Lorene Ansel of Sharon Springs, Frances Reiss of Wesken, Carol Lyle of Ulysses, and Judy Okeson of Wesken; nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Paul Slaven.
Funeral service will be held at the Cimarron Church Of The Nazarene on Monday, July 27, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Randall Harrell presiding. Burial will be a 3:00 PM MST at Weskan Cemetery in Weskan. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron, on Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
