Obituary

Dodge City - Dorothy Jean Everhart, 79, died March 14, 2014 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. She was born on November 27, 1934 at Dodge City, the daughter of Joseph and Freeda Flo (Craig) Fabick.

She graduated from Dodge City High School in 1952. On June 3, 1955, she married Vernon Harold Everhart in Dodge City. Dorothy enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their many activities, as well as spending time with sewing, gardening, and her fish pond.

As a young girl she helped her parents run the Military Grocery Store. After Dorothy and Vernon were married they moved to Longview, Texas while Vernon attended LaToureau Technical College. While in Texas, Dorothy washed clothes for college students and worked part- time for a loan company. After Vernon graduated from college he accepted a job with Cessna Aircraft Company in Hutchinson, Kansas, where they made their home for seventeen years. They raised four daughters. Dorothy worked part-time for Cessna and Davis Meat Locker. In 1976, they moved to Dodge City to own and operate Ranchwood Mobile Estates. Dorothy worked part-time at Philips News Company and JC Penney to pass her time. She was active in the Dodge City Lions Club and a life time member of the Dodge City Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her husband Vernon Everhart, Dodge City, daughters, Debra K. Mandeville, Karen Jo Blankman and husband Ron, and Marsha Lynn Weber and husband Michael, grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Mandeville, Brandon, Kassidie and Kameren Blankman, and Ty and Payton Weber, all of Dodge City. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one daughter Linda Sue Everhart.

Celebration of life will be held at the Dodge City Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Michael Burns and family member Larry Little presiding. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Ft. Dodge. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 P.M..
