Dodge City - Dorothy L. Hunter, 81, died November 9, 2012 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. She was born on September 4, 1931 in Downs, the daughter of Harry and Gladys (Trent) Edwards.

Dorothy moved to the Dodge City area with her family at an early age. She graduated from Dodge City High School. On August 20, 1950, she married Ron Hunter in Dodge City. He survives. Dorothy spent 36 years working in the Ford County Treasurer's office with the last 16 years serving as the Ford County Treasurer before retiring in 2001.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary both of Dodge City as well as the Republican Women and the G.I. Forum.

In addition to her husband Ron, Dorothy is survived by a son, Jeff Hunter and wife Theron of Tucson, Arizona; a daughter, Cathy Decker and husband A.T. of Garden City; a sister, Betty Edwards of Fort Dodge; two grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Daniel Ryder Hunter; and one brother, Robert A. Edwards.

Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Dodge City on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from noon to 8:00 P.M..
