Dorothy Ruth (Preston) Smith, 93, died May 28, 2011 at Beaumont Nursing Home in Natick, MA after a long illness. Dorothy and her twin sister, Louise were born on November 10, 1917 in Cimarron the daughter of Leonard and Ruth (Preston) Muffit. Ruth Muffitt died giving birth to the twin girls. Ruth's mother Daisy Preston raised the girls in Dodge City. Dorothy was the Great Granddaughter of Judge William H. Preston of Dodge City.
Dorothy married Clyde Smith of Dodge City in 1935. Dorothy and Clyde were grocers in Dodge City, Wichita, and Lamar, CO. They enjoyed their retirement years traveling and living in Sun Lakes, AZ. They were active in their community churches and were the founding members of the Sun Lakes Baptist Church in Sun Lakes, AZ. Dorothy spent the last years of her life living in the Boston, MA area under the loving watch of her family and the special care of her daughter, Dr. Donna Moore-Ede.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Donna S. Moore-Ede and her husband Martin of Wellesley Farms, Massachusetts and Patty Nelson and husband Carl of Sedona, Arizona; two sons, Larry Smith and wife Carolyn of Lamar, Colorado and Stephen Ward Smith and wife Deborah of Montrose, Colorado; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She has now joined her husband, Clyde; sisters, Louise and Maxine; parents, Leonard and Ruth; grandmother, Daisy; and grandson, Mark Preston Smith.
Graveside funeral service will be held at Cimarron Cemetery on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 10:00 AM.
