Obituary

Dodge City - Duane Roger Million, 90, passed away peacefully in his home south of Dodge City on July 17, 2025. Born October 25, 1934, in Conway, Iowa, the son of Simpkin Murrell "Sam" Million and Christena Caroline Misegadis Million, he married Evelyn Reaujean "Jean" Skaggs on September 29, 1956, in Dodge City, Kansas. She preceded him in death on October 31, 1997.

Duane was a graduate of Dodge City Senior High and served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956, receiving an Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). His early career path included farming, dairy cattle, hogs, and a feedlot operation. He was on the construction crew that built the Judson Large power station at Fort Dodge and began working there as a power plant operator in 1967. He retired from that job in 1999.

Duane and Jean are the parents of Nettie Diane Million (Charles Lee) of Green Valley, Illinois; Stuart Michael Million (Brenda Shriner, deceased) of Dodge City, Kansas; Barry Allen Million of Dodge City; and Tracy Racene Million Simmons (Rand Simmons) of Emporia. Grandchildren are Ashley Nguyen (John), Lenexa; Kayleen Million, Dodge City; Evelyn "Evie" Simmons, Atlanta returning to Kansas; Christina Weber (Chris), Dodge City; Chloe Champney (Connor), Clay Center; Madison Simmons, Atlanta returning to Kansas; Kaman Simmons (Jamie) Kansas City, KS; and Cameron Million, Manhattan. Great grandchildren are Keira Nguyen, Crimson Weber, Ophelia Champney, Charlie Weber, and Loretta Champney. Duane is also survived by his sister, Vadonna Burger, Estes Park, and brother Lavern Million (Bonnie), Fayette, Alabama, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Duane married Patricia Culver Hessman on December 26, 1999. With that union came the families of Pat's adult children, Rick (Pam) Hessman, Bloomfield, New Mexico; Randy Hessman (deceased); and Skyler Hessman, Gardner, Kansas. Duane enjoyed his time with the bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren that Pat shared with him. For 25 years, Duane and Pat have enjoyed touring the national parks and casinos of the country, bringing Duane's state travel tally to 2x in every state in the nation with the exception of Hawaii, which he only visited once.

Duane's body has been willed to the University of Kansas School of Medicine. A Celebration of Life will take place in September, details forthcoming.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
