Duane Holmes Rankin, 85, passed away on February 19, 2026, in Cimarron, Kansas. He was born on June 24, 1940, in Coldwater, Kansas. Duane lived a life defined by dedication-to his family, his community, and his country.

Duane proudly served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962, receiving an honorable discharge. After his military service, he devoted over thirty years to education, ultimately serving as a school administrator in the Cimarron School District #102. His leadership, kindness, and commitment to students left a lasting imprint on the community he cared for so deeply.

Duane is survived by his loving wife, Sheryl Rankin; his children, Sue Rankin, Steven Rankin, and Kimberly (J.P.) Johnson; and eight treasured grandchildren: Emily Barger (Shelby), Heidi Rankin, Michael Rankin, Zoey Rankin, Dalton (Vivian) Johnson, Danner (Hannah) Johnson, Addison Johnson Ward (Garrett), and Aubree Johnson. He also leaves behind four great‑grandchildren; Penelope, Adan, Scarlett, and Slade.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Elizabeth Rankin, and his brothers, Gary and John Rankin. Duane is survived by sisters Karen, Susan and brother Stephen.

Duane will be remembered for his service, his integrity, and the deep love he held for his family and community. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
