SUBLETTE - Edith M. Pettay, 77, died January 18, 2018 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.  She was born on August 26, 1940 in Winfield, the daughter of Jack and Donella (Hockett) Alberding.

Edith spent her early childhood in Winfield.  On April 28, 1955, she married Carl J. Pettay in Hutchinson.  He preceded her in death on June 22, 2015.  After their marriage, the couple lived in Hutchinson.  In 1975, they moved to Montezuma, followed by a move to Sublette.  In 1984, they moved to Fowler. Edith worked in customer service at K-Mart in Hutchinson, Garden City, and Wichita.  She was also a CNA and CMA and later worked as a dispatcher for the sheriff's office. Edith was also the primary caregiver for her daughter, Carla.  She had recently returned to southwest Kansas to be near her daughter after staying in Missouri for awhile with her son, Darrel. Edith enjoyed playing bingo, reading, attending KC Chiefs football games with family, and watching Nascar.  She also liked spending time in Colorado with her son, Kevin.

Edith is survived by her three children, Darrel Pettay and wife Marilyn of Peculiar, Missouri, Carla Pettay of Dodge City, and Kevin Pettay and wife Tammya of Grand Junction, Colorado; a brother, Wayne Alberding of Aurora, Missouri; a sister, Donna Jen Sanders of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.  In addition to her husband Carl, Edith is preceded in death by a son, Robert Pettay and a brother, Les Alberding.

Funeral service will be held at Sublette Southern Baptist Church on Tuesday January 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tim Tidenberg presiding.  Burial will follow at Haskell County Cemetery in Sublette.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette on Monday January 22, 2018 from noon to 8:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to the family of Edith Pettay in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
