Obituary

Edna Lucille Wetzel Donaghey (82), passed from this world on September 23, 2015. She was born on September 27, 1932, to Howard and Lucy Wetzel, and was married to Leonard Donaghey, the love of her life, for 51 years. Most of her adult life she concentrated on rearing a family, loving the Lord, and serving people in Dodge City, Kansas. Health concerns brought her back to Arkansas in 2011, where she lived at Peachtree Apartments in Farmington, and later Brookstone in Fayetteville. Edna served the Lord as a wife, mother, Girl Scout leader, bible class teacher, devoted Christian, grandmother and friend. Everywhere she went, she made lifelong friends because she loved people well.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Harold Wetzel and Chuck Wetzel, and her beloved husband Leonard. She leaves behind a daughter Betty Morris and husband Tommy Morris of Fayetteville, son Calvin Donaghey and wife Gail Donaghey of Abilene, Texas, a son Allen Donaghey of Fayetteville, Carolyn Donaghey of Oklahoma City, sisters Darlene Selby of Topeka, Ks., Juanita Harriman of Little Rock, Ark., Joyce Skaggs of Gentry, Ark., brother Howard Wetzel, Jr. of Kingston, Ark., almost sister Dortha Borchardt of Lincoln, Ark., ten grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She also leaves hundreds of loved ones, girl scouts, children and friends who will always carry the blessing of her fingerprints on their souls.
Edna loved the Lord with all she had, and showed that by loving her neighbor as herself. She took in many who needed help, befriended many who needed friends, and fed many who needed food. She baked countless pumpkin pies to give away, cooked countless meals for sick or needy folks, and would find a way to make friends wherever she was. She would never have thought of herself as a minister, but she was quick to put a lesson in her love and did her preaching with her hands and heart. She chose to love well and avoided becoming involved in squabbles which occasionally confront all of us; choosing to try to love more than choosing sides.
One of her favorite pastimes was bragging on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was so proud of them all.
Edna leaves behind a legacy. She lived and loved so well that everyone hated to see her go but no one wonders where she has gone.
A memorial service for Edna's life will be held on Saturday, November 7 , at 10:00 at the Church of Christ in Doge City.
