Obituary

Spearville - Edward Arthur Durler, 93, died September 17, 2017 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City.  He was born on May 4, 1924 at Spearville, Kansas the son of Englebert "Bert" and Stephannie "Fannie" (Habiger) Durler.

Edward was a lifetime farmer and rancher. He had the philosophy that anything broken could always be fixed. He also worked as a plumber in Spearville and Dodge City. Edward married Clarine Indiek on August 8, 1950 at Windthorst, Kansas, and she preceded him in death on October 2, 1995.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Spearville, as well as a 3 rd Degree Knight for the Spearville Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Kansas Livestock Association and the V.F.W. of Dodge City. Edward served on the St. John's School Board. He was also a member of the United States Navy, serving in WWII.

Edward is survived by his faithful companion Sonja Barnes of Dodge City; daughter Diane Muncy and husband Howard of Dodge City; sons Rod and wife Carol of Spearville, and Tim and wife Kim of Spearville; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren; sisters Esther Burkhart of Hutchinson, Ruth Hattrup of Kinsley, and Rosemary Lamb and husband Duane of Ceder Rapids, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Fannie; wife Clarine; brothers John Durler, Joe Durler and infant brother Robert Durler; sisters Eleanora Linnebur, Irene Boyd, and Sister Evarista Durler; and grandson Todd Muncy.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 10:30 AM with Rev. John Forkuoh presiding. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Spearville.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 12:00 to 4:00 PM.  A vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville. Memorials are suggested to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Hospice of the Prairie in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
