DODGE CITY - Edward T. Mellies, 86, died January 9, 2010 at Trinity Manor Nursing Home, Dodge City. He was born on July 26, 1923 at Ransom the son of Ernest Lee and Hazel (Tanner) Mellies.

Edward moved with his family to Dodge City when he was four years old. He attended Dodge City and Cimarron Schools. On October 19, 1957 he married Esther Eva Stenzel at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Dodge City. Mr. Mellies was a farmer most of his life retiring in 1988. He was also a house painter and enjoyed working outside. Edward was very active in his church and enjoyed doing arts and crafts.

He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Dodge City.

Mr. Mellies is survived by his wife, Esther Mellies of Dodge City; sister, Lillie Lee Wheeler of Manhattan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Mellies; and sister, Della Lynn Niedens.

Funeral service will be held at Christ The King Lutheran Church on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Kent Groethe presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, January 14, 2010 from Noon to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.
