Dodge City - Elizabeth (Betty) E. Flowers, 84, died July 22, 2017 at Lone Tree Retirement Center in Meade. She was born on September 13, 1932 in Dodge City, the daughter of Emery and Clara Elna (Miller) Wittman.
Betty was a lifetime resident of Dodge City. She attended Sacred Heart grade school, Dodge City junior high, and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1950. On November 23, 1949, she married Wayne Eugene Flowers. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1986. They were active in two different square dance clubs, dancing almost every weekend. Betty returned to school and graduated from Dodge City Community College with an Associate's Degree in 1987. Betty worked for Ford County Treasurer from 1969 thru 1980. She then began working at the Ford County District Court in 1987 until her retirement on April 30, 1998. Betty enjoyed camping with her family.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Daughters of Isabella, Sacred Heart Altar Society and the Happy Hour Extension Unit all of Dodge City.
Betty is survived by five children, Jeannie Greathouse and husband Keith of Kansas City, Missouri; Ron Flowers and wife Ellen of Wichita; Tom Flowers and wife Audrey of Meade; John Flowers and wife Jeri of Liberty, Missouri; and Cathy Cox of Dodge City; one brother, Robert (Bob) Wittman and wife Norma of Bonney Lake, Washington; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Gene, Betty is preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Brandon Cox.
Vigil Service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Thursday July 27, 2017 at 7:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dodge City on Friday July 28, 2017 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Thursday July 27, 2017 from noon to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart School or Lone Tree Retirement Center in care of the funeral home.
