Epimenio "Mingo" Torrez, 81, died on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. He was born on March 24, 1927 in the Mexican Village of Dodge City, the son of Jose V. and Sara (Jaso) Torrez.
Mr. Torrez married Susana D. Garcia in March of 1948. She preceded him in death on August 4, 2003. He worked for Broce Construction and then J-A-G for many years. He enjoyed plaing the guitar, singing, and landscaping. His children and grandchildren were the pride of his life.
He was a member of Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe and the G.I. Forum both of Dodge City.
Mr. Torrez is survived by three daughters, Corine J. and husband Joe Perez of Dodge City, Geneva M. and husband Manuel Rodriguez of Riverside, California, and Rita and husband Nick Sandoval of Dodge City; one son, Manuel and wife Corrine Torrez of Jetmore; 13 brothers and sisters, Carol, Isabel, Teresa, Nellie, Jessie, Paul and Frank all of Dodge City, Lupe, Eleanor, Josie, and Margaret all of Wichita, Delores of Marble Falls, Texas and Mike of LaJunta, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one granddaughter, Anisa Torrez; and one brother, Pascual Torrez.
Vigil service will be held at Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe in Dodge City on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 7:00 PM. Cremation will follow vigil service. Memorial Mass will be held at the Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe on Friday February 27, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
