Dodge City - Erlene Grace Flowers, 91, died March 27, 2023 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. She was born on February 8, 1932 at Ingalls, Kansas the daughter of Earl and Grace (Israel) Addison.
Erlene grew up in Ingalls, graduating from Ingalls High School. While in high school, Erlene met Johnny Flowers on her brother in laws farm. The two were married on July 16, 1950 in Cimarron. Together they lived in Cimarron before moving to Ulysses, and then eventually to Dodge City. After moving to Dodge City, Erlene went to work for 1 st National Bank until she retired.
Erlene had many hobbies, including reading, ceramics, putting together puzzles, gardening and canning. She also enjoyed fishing and camping. Erlene loved spending time with her family; she especially loved to watch her grandchildren in whatever activities they participated in. She was always an active person, serving as a Den Mother for Boy Scouts and was also a member of a bowling team at one point.
She is survived by her children, Ricky Flowers and wife Diana of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Randy Flowers and wife Paula of Portland, Texas, Rhonda Weil and husband Peter of Wichita, Robin Underwood and husband Greg of Ensign, and Renee Gillum and husband Danny of Bucklin. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. Erlene was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Grace Addison; husband, Johnny Flowers; and siblings, Clyde Addison, Clovis Addison, Violet Flowers, and Bernice Whittaker.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Ford County Humane Society or Hospice of the Prairie in care of the funeral home.
