DODGE CITY - Esther V. Petty, 104, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains at Dodge City. Mrs. Petty was born on March 7, 1906 at Reno County, Kansas, the daughter of John and Emma (Roth) Zimmerman. She moved with her family to the Concord community in 1917. On April 15, 1926 she was united in marriage to Robert W. Petty. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1982. They lived in Dodge City until 1971 when they moved to the Rio Grand Valley in Texas and later returned to Dodge City in 1979. Mrs. Petty was a devoted wife and caring and loving aunt, as well as a friend to many.
Mrs. Petty was a charter member of the Loyal Workers Class and a faithful member of First Christian Church of Dodge City since 1926., except for the eight years in McAllen, Texas where she was a member of Central Christian Church.
Survivors include numerous nephews and nieces. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Williams, Bertha Bishop and Mayme Hamilton, a brother Ezra Zimmerman and an infant brother and sister.
Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at First Christian Church 711 5th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM with Mr. Phil Scott presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Memorials can be made to Manor Of The Plains or to Hospice Of The Prairie in care of the funeral home.
