Obituary

Montezuma – Florence "Flo" Irene Crump, 94, went to meet her Lord on November 10, 2024 at her home in Montezuma, surrounded by many members of her family.  She was born on September 28, 1930 at Nashville, Kansas the daughter of August Otto and Allie Norma (Owen) Bether.

Flo spent her early childhood in Nashville and attended school there until the sixth grade.  She then moved to Hutchinson where she graduated from high school.  On February 3, 1951, Flo was united in marriage to David Crump in Hutchinson.  They were blessed with seven children.

During her marriage to David, she lived in many communities in Kansas, including her hometown of Hutchinson, Ft. Riley, Lakin, Dodge City, Emporia, Haysville, Ogallah, Ulysses, Chanute, Humboldt, Colwich, Maize, Ness City, WaKeeney, Cimarron, and Montezuma. Flo worked at various doctor's offices and hospitals during her life.  She also worked for the U.S. Census Bureau.

Family was always very important to Flo.  She loved many sports, especially watching her kids, grandkids, and great grand kids participate in their sports and other activities.  One of her great honors was in 2020, when she won the Super Bowl in the Crump Family Fantasy Football League!  She loved playing all kinds of cards, including bridge. Flo belonged to several bridge groups, playing multiple times a month.  For many years, she was in Federation Clubs, including being state president.

Flo was a member and actively involved in Morningside Community Church in Montezuma.  She was lovingly known as "Grandma Cookie" to many children, as she served many cookies over the years at AWANA's.  Flo organized the greeters at the church, addressed many birthday cards to church members, and was actively involved in the women's Bible study for several years. She was also involved in Bluelight FCE, Red Hat Ladies, as well as the Lions Club all of Montezuma.

She is survived by seven children, Debbie Kendrick and husband Kaven of Bridge Creek, Oklahoma, Kim Olinger and husband Al of Montezuma, Bill Crump and wife Karen of Madison, Alabama, Dan Crump and wife Liz of Brookville, Jim Crump and wife Michelle of Emporia, Mark Crump and wife Bev of Pratt, and Robin McMillan of Montezuma; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.  Flo is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; siblings, Donna Tilton, Lois Doerkson, and John Bether; a granddaughter, Annie; and a son-in-law, James McMillan.

Memorial service will be held at Morningside Community Church in Montezuma on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 10:30 AM with Tim Erickson presiding.  There is no visitation as cremation has taken place.  Memorials are suggested to Morningside Church to be used for the new floor in the kitchen  in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel PO Box 421 Montezuma, Kansas.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
