IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Florence L.
Lee
March 21, 1927 – January 31, 2025
Dodge City – Florence L. Lee, 97, passed away peacefully at the Hodgeman County Health Center on January 31, 2025. Florence was born on her family farm in rural southwest Hodgeman County on March 21, 1927, the youngest child of Irvin and Millie (Zelenka) Miller.
Florence attended grade school at a nearby country school and then Jetmore High School, where she graduated in 1946. It is there, at a basketball game, that she met the love of her life, Wayne Lee in 1944.After a four-year courtship, they were married at the St. Cornelius Episcopal Church in Dodge City on November 9, 1948. They made their home in Dodge City, where Wayne owned and operated Lee's Body Shop for 50 years. During this time, Florence was an accomplished accountant for Morton Fisher PA, Tasset & Tasset, and Davis-Salisbury, finally retiring at the age of 82. Wayne preceded her in death on November 2, 2005.
In1956, they proudly welcomed their only child into the world, Terry Wayne Lee. She was a devoted mother as well as serving as den mother for her son's Cub Scout den along with supporting other activities in which Terry participated.
In 1977 Florence joined the local TOPS chapter and within a year gained the status of KOPS and proudly maintained that status for 43 years. Along with TOPS, Florence was active in her church, First Christian Church, and was baptized into Christ in 1960.
She enjoyed working on the rental properties that she and Wayne owned. In addition, Florence helped Wayne achieve her dream of building the family home. She loved fishing and camping with her family, taking numerous vacations over the years, and visiting most of the United States, including Hawaii, and Europe. Making multitudes of family videos over the years was her passion. She loved sewing and cooking and was quite good at both. Florence especially enjoyed participating in activities that involved her granddaughter, Mackenzie.
Florence is survived by her son, Terry W. Lee of Dodge City, granddaughter Mackenzie Lee Almejo and husband Cristian of Dodge City, an aunt, Carolyn King of Arizona, along with numerous nieces and nephews and her cat Jingle.
