Frances Schmidt, 91, died April 5, 2012 at Bethel Home in Montezuma. She was born on July 24, 1920 at Las Animas, Colorado, the daughter of Gerhard N. and Ida (Ratzlaff) Yost.

Frances attended grade school at the South Salem School and the North Lone Star School. On April 23, 1939, she married Jesse Schmidt in Montezuma. He preceded her in death on November 19, 2003.

She was a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite of Montezuma.

Frances is survived by five sons, David Schmidt and wife Virginia of Montezuma, Kenneth Schmidt and wife Anita of Montezuma, Elwin Schmidt and wife Priscilla of Heston, Laurel Schmidt and wife Carolyn of Barnett, Missouri, Robert Schmidt and wife Ardith of Alligator, Mississippi; three daughters, Ruth Schmidt of Montezuma, Arlene Koehn and husband Rodney of Montezuma and Carolyn Yost and husband David of Moundridge; one sister, Stella Schmidt and husband Harry of Montezuma; one brother, Paul Yost and wife Verbena of Montezuma; 32 grandchildren; and 63 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Frances is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Curtis and Archie Yost; two sisters, Esther Unruh and Marie Nichols; and two great grandcildren.

Funeral service will be held at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Montezuma on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. with Ministers Donald Koehn, Edwin Classen, and Charles Schmidt presiding. Burial will follow at Church of God in Christ Mennonite Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Saturday, April 7, 2012 from noon until 6:00 P.M. and at Bethel Home in Montezuma on Sunday, April 8, 2012 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
