Dodge City - Fred C. Casterline, 90, died August 18, 2023 at Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. He was born on June 3, 1933 at Dodge City the son of Fred J. and Nona (Bay) Casterline.
Fred was married to Ruth Ann Mears from 1954 to 1988. He later married Linda Wilhelmsem on June 4, 1989 in Dodge City, she survives. Fred proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot from 1955 to 1957. Fred graduated from Kansas State University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. He enjoyed flying model airplanes, playing tennis and golfing in his spare time. Fred never lost the love of flying after his time in the service and held a private pilot's license until the age of 80. He joined the family business in several agriculture companies, developing the first hybrid sorghum seed distribution. He later introduced center pivot irrigation to Kansas and the first desk top computers for business.
He was a member of the Kappa Sigma at Kansas State University, Dodge City Rotary Club and served as a Ford County Commissioner for several years.
He is survived by his wife Linda of the home; two sons Carl Casterline of Dodge City; Eric Carlin of Phoenix, Arizona and one daughter Elaine Gall of Dodge City. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Charles Casterline, one brother Paul Casterline and one sister Betty Leavitt.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Wednesday August 23, 2023 at 2:00 PM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with Full Military Rites by SWKS Funeral Honors Program. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Dodge City American Legion in care of the funeral home.
