Dodge City - Garland F. Smith Jr., 77, died August 21, 2017 at his home in Dodge City.  He was born on July 21, 1940 at Wichita Falls, Texas the son of Garland F. Smith Sr. and Delois (Studyvin) Smith.

Garland grew up in Texas and moved with his family to Medicine Lodge where he graduated high school. On October 12, 1958 he married Kay Lynn Thomas in Medicine Lodge.  Garland served in the United States Army and later graduated from Hutchinson Community College.  He worked for the Dodge City COOP for 15 years and later with Roto-Mix where he worked until his retirement.

He was a member of the Grace Community Church of Dodge City, V.F.W. and NRA.

Garland is survived by his wife, Kay Lynn Smith of Dodge City; son, Brad Smith and wife Mary of Creede, Colorado; daughter, Lori Crowder and husband Kurt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Grandchildren, Kasey, Chris, Riley, and Tyler Crowder, Josh, Tyler, and Adam York and Emily Salmans; great grandchildren, Kannon, Troy, Will, Cora and Hattie. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Billyjane Dubois.

Funeral service will be held at Grace Community Church on Thursday August 24, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Kirk Larson presiding.  Burial will be at 3:00 PM on Thursday at Highland Cemetery in Medicine Lodge.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Wednesday August 23, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
