Gary Ernst, 87, passed away on July 14, 2026, at Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. He was born on January 17, 1939 in Russell, to Alexander and Rachel (Kerbs) Ernst.

Gary grew up in Dodge City and was a 1957 graduate of Dodge City Senior High School. He then attended Kansas State University on a football scholarship and later graduated from Emporia State Teachers College. Gary married Sherri Ernst on December 27, 1967 in Dodge City. He worked for HI Case Co and later purchased several case dealerships including Dodge City Farm Equipment.

Gary loved to golf and was a member of Mariah Hills in Dodge City. He also loved to travel with his wife Sherri on their many cherished trips to Hawaii and Durango, Colorado.

He is survived by five nieces and was preceded in death his parents; wife, Sherri Ernst; a sister, Virginia, and brother, Ron Ernst.

The grave service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will from Noon to 5:00 PM on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Dodge City. Memorial donations can be made in Gary's name to Hospice of the Prairie.
