Obituary

Satanta - George Francis Troutt, 87, died Friday, January 9, 2026, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born August 3, 1938, in Beaver, Oklahoma to Vinnie “Coy” and Emma June (Hummer) Troutt in Beaver, Oklahoma. His mother passed away when he was young and he and his dad “courted” Miss Clementine Lee, who later became his stepmom. He was the youngest of three brothers and two sisters that helped raise and take care of him on the family farm. George always loved and took care of his family, and his family has remained very closely knitted.

George was raised in Slapout, Oklahoma and attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma where he met the love of his life, Jean Ann Quinn, in the cafeteria lunch line. They were married on August 26, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Guymon, Oklahoma.

After serving in the Army Reserves, he then completed his BS degree. He was an educator and coach for 35 years in the Elkhart, Kansas, Oberlin Kansas, Keyes Oklahoma, and Satanta, Kansas school districts. He retired in 1998 after teaching and coaching for 22 years in Satanta. After retirement, he served on the Satanta School Board for 12 years starting in 2007.

George was a humble community servant which was reflected when he was presented with the Outstanding Senior Citizen Award in 2013. He was often seen mowing yards around the community after his retirement and was a regular at the Happy Agers site and the Corner Express. He was known for his sharp wit and candor even until his last days on earth.

George loved agriculture as well and was highly active in the community 4-H and Satanta FFA programs. George loved growing wheat and raising cattle on the family farm just outside of Slapout, Oklahoma in partnership with his brothers and sisters after his retirement.

He was heavily involved in the life of the Satanta Methodist Church by serving others, especially the children’s and youth groups. He was passionate about his relationship with the Lord and his belief in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Ann Troutt of the home; a son, Terry (Susanne) of South Carolina; a daughter, Tammy (Brad) Clem of Shawnee, Kansas; two grandchildren ,Anna Troutt and Zachary Clem; and one brother, Hoover “Marvin” Troutt; along with numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ray and Gilbert; and sisters, Ruby June Piersall and Myrtle Nine.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Satanta Methodist Church on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 10:00 am with Rev. Wes and Rev. Elizabeth Young officiating. Interment will be at Fairmont Cemetery in Follett, Texas at 3:30 PM on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Satanta Methodist Church or to the Happy Agers Senior Site in the care of Swaim Funeral Chapel, PO Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.
