Fort Dodge - Geraldine "Gerry" Lee, 84, died December 30, 2016 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. She was born on November 21, 1932 in Longview, Texas the daughter of Riley Elkin and Ethel Pauline (Sorey) Skaggs.
Gerry spent her early childhood in Texas, moving with her family to Kansas in 1945. In 1949, they moved to Dodge City. Gerry graduated from Dodge City High School in 1951. On July 25, 1951, she was united in marriage to Barnie H. Lee. He preceded her in death on November 14, 2012. Gerry worked for Dodge City Community College in the print shop, retiring on July 19, 1993. Barnie and Gerry enjoyed camping and fishing together. Gerry was an avid reader and also liked to crochet and work in her flower garden.
She was a member of Christ The King Lutheran Church of Dodge City where she served as church treasurer for nine years and a Sunday School teacher for many years. After moving to Fort Dodge, she attended church at the Fort Dodge Chapel. Gerry was also a member of the Sunnysouth Extension Unit in Ford County.
Gerry is survived by a son, Leon Lee and wife Brenda of Dodge City; a brother, Riley E. Skaggs of Dodge City; seven grandchildren, Chantell Debenham of Abilene, Jeremy Lee of Kansas City, Meghan Lee of Manhattan, Brian Lawrence of Larned, Eric Lawrence of Cody, Wyoming, Chris Lee of Cody Wyoming, and Nicole Ames of Coldwater; and 10 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Barnie, Gerry is preceded in death by her parents; twin daughters, Ethel and Deane; son, Brent Lee; grandson, Jeremiah Lee; great granddaughter, Brooklyn Debenham; brother, Bernard Skaggs; and two sisters, Laverne Skaggs and Reaujean Million.
Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Wednesday January 4, 2017 at 10:30 AM with Chaplain Shannon Sanchez presiding. A private family inurnment will take place at a later time at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Ft. Dodge. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the book at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Tuesday January 3, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Fort Dodge Chapel in care of the funeral home.
