Obituary

Gertrude "Trudy" H. (Connaway) Henry, 92, died Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the Sterling House in Dodge City. She was born on May 7, 1918 at Dodge City, the daughter of Stanley Frank and Hattie M. (Foley) Connaway.

Trudy married Charles E. Henry on October 24, 1940 at St. Cornelius Episcopal Church in Dodge City. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2007. Mrs. Henry was a registered nurse and was very active with the polio immunization program in the public schools. She was also very active in PTA, served on the state board of the American Diabetes Association, was active in the American Heart Association, and completed the Meninger Bible Study course. Mrs. Henry was a member of St. Cornelius Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, P.E.O. Chapter GA, was a charter member of Atheneum Club, and a charter member of the Modern Mother's Club. Trudy was a 20 year volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile, a volunteer nurse for the Well Baby Clinics and Crippled Children's Clinic as well as a Board Member and Officer of the Ford County Heart Association, and a long time member of the Women's Auxillary of the Salvation Army.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Bush, Jan Scoggins, and Dana Howard; grandchildren, Rick Thomas and wife Linda, Stan Scoggins and Nelson Sanchez MD, Steve Scoggins and wife Sharon, Cmdr. Scott Brees and wife Kendall, Charlie Bush and Valerie Viosca, David Bush and Jami Renollet, Emily Hollenbeck and husband Brian, Erin Stroda and husband Trevor, and Kevin Howard; great grandchildren, Anthony Collins, Sara Collins, Kathryn and Rebecca Brees, Abby Scoggins, and Ellie Scoggins; one great great grandson, Adan Coyne; many nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Lianna Thomas; and one sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Behl.

Memorial service will be held at St. Cornelius Episcopal Church in Dodge City on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dennis Zimmerman presiding. Private family inurnment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. There will be no public visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Cornelius Episcopal Church or the Sterling House or American Diabetes Association Youth Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
