Obituary

Dodge City - Gil Mathis Gregg, 47, died October 1, 2013 at his residence. He was born on August 9, 1966 in Dodge City, the son of Don and Betty (Mathis) Gregg.

He grew up in Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City Senior High School in 1985. He attended Dodge City Community College and Fort Hays State University. Gil played baseball at both institutions. On October 2, 1993 he married Barbara Russell at Ada Lutheran Church in Kackley, Kansas.

Gil worked for the Dodge City Daily Globe, worked as a paraprofessional for U.S.D. 443 school district and a devoted care giver for his parents. Gil loved his family, was an avid University of Kansas fan and loved all sports statistics.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Dodge City.

Gil is survived by his wife Barbara Gregg, his four daughters, Emma, Olivia, Betsy and Allison Gregg all of the home; his parents, Don and Betty Gregg of Dodge City; two sisters, Gay Willson-Hughes and husband Dennis of Wichita, and Jan Goodwin and husband Tom of Cleveland, Tennessee; parents in law, Gene and Joanne Russell of Courtland; a brother in law, Jay Russell and wife Jenny of Courtland and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Beth Huston.

Memorial service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Dodge City on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Randall Jahnke presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Friends May sign the guest book Monday October 7, 2013 from 9 AM to 5 PM at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Memorials are suggested to Gil Gregg Children's Educational Fund, Holy Cross Lutheran Church or American Diabetes Assn. in care of the funeral home.
