Yukon, Oklahoma - Gilbert Ruiz Amaro, 77, died August 29, 2013 at his home in Yukon, Oklahoma. He was born on March 15, 1936 at Dodge City, KS the son of Juan and Petra Ruiz (Amaro) .
He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Broce Broom for many years. Gilbert also worked for BFI Waste Management for several years. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Amaro enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family in his spare time.
He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
He is survived by three sons Chi Amaro, Keith Thomas and Gilbert Adam Amaro all of Yukon, Oklahoma. He is also survived by four sisters Jane Herandez of Los Angeles, California, Santos Higaderda, Ignacia Zisumbo, Frances Zisumbo all of Ogden, Utah and three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Doug Thomas, five brothers Victor, Catarino, Simon, Marshal, Matthew, and four sisters Nellie, Angelo, Olivia and Alejandra.
Funeral Mass will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 9:30 AM with Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. A Vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday September 4, 2013 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 12:00 to 5:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in care of the funeral home.
