Dodge City - Gordon A. Smith, 66, died September 19, 2011 at Fort Dodge, Ks . He was born on July 27, 1945 at Dodge City, KS the son of Gordon L. and Billie Lee(Lamb) .

He enlisted in the US Army and gruated from OCS at Ft. Benning Georgia in 1966. Gordon served in Vietnam as an infantry platoon leader. He was a graduate of Emporia State University in 1972.Gordon married Kathy Arnold on December 23, 1973 in Leavenworth, she survives. He was the owner and operator of Jack of Hearts and Gordon Smith Heating and Cooling.

He attended the First Baptist Church in Dodge City.

He is survived by his wife Kathy of the home;one son Brian Smith and wife Dr. Jennifer Smith of Blue Earth, Minneosta; one daughter Jessa Smith and future husband Mason Froebe of Overland Park,Kansas; and one granddaughter Elsie Smith. He is also survived by one brother Randy Smith of Pennsylvania;three sisters Coleen Cossell and husband Spike of Bucklin, Kansas;Marji Burgard and husband Bruce of Shawnee, Kansas;Jerri Deardoff and husband John of Hutchinson, Kansas and his mother Billie Lee Smith of Bucklin, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother Fredrick Smith.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Dr. Gary Winget presiding. Graveside service will be on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 12:00 to 8:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Swaim Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Bucklin Arbor Fund or the First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
