Grace Darlene (Simmons) Carmichael, 76, died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Grace Living Center Nursing Home in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was born on September 29, 1933 in Windthorst, the daughter of John Robert and Anna Mary (Juttner) Simmons.
On October 11, 1954, she married Paul "P.A." Carmichael at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1998. Darlene was a mother and a homemaker. She was very active in her children's lives and various organizations in Dodge City.
Darlene was an active member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Daughters of Isabella, Boy Scouts of America, and the Ford County Extension Chapter, all of Dodge City.
Survivors include four sons, Mark Carmichael and wife Dana of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Brian Carmichael and wife Marlene of Norman, Oklahoma, Rex Carmichael and wife Sarah of West Point, Virginia, and Lee Carmichael and wife Tiffany of Wichita; one daughter, Donna Dray and husband Terry of Edmond, Oklahoma; one brother, Steve Simmons of Castle Rock, Colorado; three sisters, Leona Gregg of Sidney, Nebraska, Alice Secrets of La Habra, California, and Leyola Stewart of Buena Vista, Colorado. She is also survived by nine grandchildren In addition to her husband P.A. Carmichael, she was preceded in death by two brothers Don Simmons and Jimmy Simmons.
Vigil service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City, on Thursday January 7, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 from noon to 7:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Sacred Heart Endowment Fund or to the Good Shepherd Hospice of Edmond, Oklahoma in care of the funeral home.
