MONTEZUMA - Gwenna Kay Toews, our dear daughter ans sister was born to James and Carolyn Toews on March 8, 1990 in Wichita. Jesus took her home to sing with the angels on October 24, 2012. She was a special part of our family for 22 years.
Gwenna lived her life just west of Montezuma and attended Homeland Christian School. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite at the Homeland Congregation by Minister Lyndon Toews on March 30, 2008.
Even though her life had challenges, she had a happy childhood and enjoyed school. We had fun growing up together and are left with many fond memories of playing together and teasing each other. Gwenna enjoyed time spent with family, especially looking forward to birthdays and holidays. Her niece and nephew were an added joy. She made friends easily; they accepted her and meant a lot to her. She was happy to join the youth group and anticipated their activities. Gwenna was creative in finding ways to fill her time and enjoyed reading. A special memory we have is spending a week in Red River, New Mexico together as a family this past summer. The little place Gwenna filled in our family will be be greatly missed. Her enthusiasm for life and the way she accepted it are an encouragement to us.
She was concerned about her salvation ans spiritual life was important to her. Gwenna had a personal relationship with her Jesus and had a trusting childlike faith. When something troubled her we often found her praying. She loved going to church and especially appreciated Sunday mornings.
Those left with happy memories are her parents of the home; one brother, Kirby Toews and wife Julie of Wilcox, Arizona; one sister, Stacy Koehn and husband Daylan of Montezuma; grandfather, David Toews of Montezuma; niece, Jenessa Toews; nephew, Tate Koehn, and uncles aunts, cousins, and friends who we thank for taking a special interest in Gwenna. Grandma Delilah Toews, Grandparents, Romie and Mary Smith, Uncles Gene Smith, Galen Smith, and Gerald Toews preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held at Homeland Mennonite Church on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 3:00 PM with Ministers Lyndon Toews, Luther Smith, and Donald Koehn II presiding. Burial will follow at Homeland Mennonite Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Montezuma on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from noon to 5:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Christian Service International Children's Fund in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
