Obituary

My dear husband, our father and grandfather, Harold Keith Smith, was born to David and Myrtle (Giesbrecht) Smith on February 24, 1953 at Montezuma, Kansas. He quietly crossed Jordan in the early morning hours of January 28, 2022, at the age of 68 years, after battling cancer. He spent the last weeks of his life surrounded by his family and in the care of his loving wife.

Dad's growing up years were spent on the family farm in the Montezuma area. He received his education through the public school system. He was converted and baptized in the winter of 1966. His quiet and faithful Christian life was an inspiration to us all. He spent a couple of his youth years together with his parents in the Haiti mission, and those years were often mentioned in conversation.

In February of 1976, Dad married our mom, Debbie, daughter of Bob and Joanne Boehs, at Goltry, Oklahoma. They settled on a farm northwest of Montezuma. To this union 5 children were born. His life was invested here. It's the only home we know. Dad's primary occupation was a farmer. His hard work and dedication to his family provided a secure place for each of us, his children.

Dad had numerous passions in his life. We have many memories of the years spent at the Dodge City Mission. He spent several terms on the schoolboard, and his support and love for the school endeavor never left him. His love of children, and especially his own grandchildren, was exceptional. He had a wonderful way with Kristin. These paths of service led him to a place on the Touch of Hope committee, and he poured his heart into that endeavor with his trademark enthusiasm.

We have so many good memories of time spent together. Corn harvest was a highlight of Dad's year. Vacations were also special to Dad. Anytime that the family could be together made it a good time. He commented that the last Christmas gathering was the best of all. Dad loved to sing, and we will miss his strong bass.

The inspiration in Dad's life was not expressed in a vocal way. He had a quiet and steady nature. It was inspiring to observe him accept his condition and the limitations that it increasingly placed on his life. He built on a firm foundation. His constant faith has provided a light that guides us on. We have an assurance that he rests in peace.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie, his children: James and Tamara, Ingalls, Kansas, Elizabeth and Craig Buller, Murtaugh, Idaho, David and Jana, Center, Colorado, Cameron and Teresa, Montezuma, Kansas, and Rosanne, Goltry, Oklahoma, and thirteen grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert and Don, and two sisters, Janet and Linda. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Victor, Jim, and Glen, and one sister, Delores.
Memorials are suggested to Touch of Hope, in care of the funeral home.
