HARRY ELWOOD "WOODY" WALTER
FT. DODGE - Harry Elwood "Woody" Walter, 95, died October 19, 2012 at Halsey Hall, Fort Dodge. He was born on February 22, 1917 at Middleport, Ohio the son of Harry K. and Neva Bell (Tuckerman) Walter.
Woody served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. He flew B-26 Bombers during the war and was a P.O.W. in Germany. On August 28, 1943 he married Luella Jo Fagen at Dodge City. They moved to Ohio in 1945 and then back to Kansas in 1952. They lived in Spearville until 1970 before moving to Medicine Lodge where they resided until 2006. They returned to Spearville in 2006 prior to moving to Ft. Dodge in 2010, where he has resided since.
He was a member of the of the V.F.W. Post #7625 and American Legion both of Medicine Lodge, Federated Church of Spearville and United Methodist Church of Medicine Lodge.
Mr. Walter is survived by a daughter, Dixie Daubert and husband Wayne of Spearville; son, Stan Walter and wife Jacki of Rocky Hill, Connecticut; brother, Robert Walter of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Luella, parents, one brother, and six sisters.
Memorial service will be held at the Spearville Federated Church on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Mr. Barney Korbelik and Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with military rites by V.F.W. Post 1714, Dodge City. Memorials are suggested to the Spearville Federated Church or Kansas Soldiers Home at Ft. Dodge both in care of the funeral home.
