Obituary

Sublette - Helena Friesen, 62, died January 18, 2022 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, following a long illness. She was born on November 22, 1959 in Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of John and Susanna (Wiebe) Reimer.

Helena's childhood was spent in Mexico. In September of 1980, she married Cornelius Friesen. To this union were born five children, John, Cory, Susie, Frankie, and Jakie. The family moved to Oklahoma in 1998 and then to Garden City in 2006 before moving to Sublette.

Helena was a wonderful wife and mother. She enjoyed caring for her family. Helena helped her daughter with her painting business until she became ill. She enjoyed family trips to Red River and to different lakes. As long as she was with her family, she was happy.  Helena loved attending her grandchildren's ballgames, concerts, and other activities. Her faith was also an important part of her life. Helena faithfully read her Bible daily.

She is survived by her husband, Cornelius Friesen of Sublette; four children, John Friesen and wife Helena of Copeland, Cory Friesen of Sublette, Susie Giesbrecht and husband Jake of Sublette, and Frankie Friesen and wife Amy of Montezuma; six grandchildren, Ryan, Mekayla, and Skylee Friesen of Copeland and Peyton, Keegan, and Leetrich Giesbrecht of Sublette; six brothers, Peter, William, John, Abe, Cornelius, and Jake Reimer; and one sister, Anna Kroker. She is preceded in death by a son, Jakie; her parents; one brother, Derrick Reimer; and one sister, Maria Reimer.

Funeral service will be held at Old Colony Mennonite Church, Montezuma on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 1:00 PM with Minister Abe Thiessen presiding. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette on Friday, January 21, 2022 from noon to 6:00 PM.
