Helene Marie Zimmerman McCann, 91, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at her home in Mission Woods, Kansas. She was born on June 5, 1918 at Dodge City, the daughter of Ben F. and Laura (Taylor) Zimmerman.

Helene graduated from Dodge City High School in 1936 and during high school was selected as a beauty queen. After high school she attended the University of Kansas where she earned a bachelor's degree in 1940. While attending the University of Kansas, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and also was a member and officer of many campus organizations.

After graduation she worked in the banking industry until she married Glenn E. McCann on November 1, 1951 in Johnson County, Kansas. After her marriage, Helene enjoyed traveling abroad, was an avid collector of English antiques, and had a special fondness for all the dogs she cared for over the years. In addition, for twenty six years she served with distinction on the Board of Directors of The Fidelity State Bank and Trust Company of Dodge City.

Mrs. McCann is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-eight years, Glenn E. McCann of the home; sister-in-law, Doris E. Zimmerman of Dodge City; one niece, Suzanne Zimmerman of Beaverton, Oregon; one nephew, Ben F. Zimmerman III of Dodge City; three great nieces; two great nephews; a great-great niece; and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ben Zimmerman, Jr.

Private funeral services will be held. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemtery in Dodge City. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Helene's name for benefit of the Ford County Humane Society.
