Obituary

Dodge City – Henry Esquibel Martinez, 86, died January 29, 2024 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, Kansas.  He was born on May 28, 1937 at Dodge City, Kansas the son of Henry and Delores (Esquibel) Martinez.

He married Gloria Garcia on February 17, 1957 in Dodge City, she preceded him in death on October 7, 1998. Henry served in US Navy during the Korean War at the Formosa Strait Conflict. Mr. Martinez worked in the research and development department for Speed King for many years. He was the owner and operator of Colonial Product- providing Dodge City with ornamental iron work products. He loved working in his shop and spending time with his little dog Precious. Mr. Martinez also had a companion Betty Martinez for 23 years.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Howard Gotschall VFW Post #1714, Charles Ernest Scott American Legion Post #47, GI Forum all of Dodge City.

He is survived by four sons Greg Martinez and companion Brenda of Dodge City; Rick H. Martinez of Maryland; Rodney Martinez and companion Christine of Missouri; Douglas Martinez and wife Michelle of Texas; two daughters Tammy and companion Jamie of Georgia; Victoria Martinez of Wichita. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren Nicholas, Michael, Daniel, Danna, A.J., Christian, Jane, Hank, Gloria, Bryce, Briant, Brendan, Blaine and 15 great grandchildren as well as two brothers Sal Venegas of Dodge City; Ed Venegas of Olathe, Kansas and one sister Carol Sanchez Kline of Dodge City. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Arty and Baby Martinez.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday February 2, 2024 at 10:00 AM with Rev. John Stang presiding. Rosary will be at 9:30 AM Friday, February 2, 2024 at Swaim Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
