Homer H. Jones, 96, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Kenwood View Nursing Center in Salina. He was born on December 14, 1913 at Sylvia the son of Walter P. and Mildred A. (Yust) Jones.
Mr. Jones' family moved to Dodge City when he was a child. He lived there until 2005 when he moved to Salina. Homer married Dorothy Fullerton of Radium, KS in 1935 and they made their home in Dodge City. Mr. Jones was a career railroader, a devout Methodist and an avid Mason. He loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed the grandchildren and their young ones growing up.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dodge City where he taught Sunday school for many years, Dodge City Lions Club, St. Bernard Lodge #222 AF & AM of Dodge City, Eastern Star of Dodge City, Wichita Valley of the Scottish Rite (KCCH 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason), and Gideons.
Survivors include one daughter, Sylvia Schoenewe and husband Russell of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one son, Donley Jones and wife Jann of Salina; one brother, John P. Jones of Hamilton, Ohio; two sisters, Marjorie Moreland and Wilma Ridgeway of Dodge City; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sisters, and four brothers.
Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. Inurnment will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place.
