Obituary

SATANTA - Ima June Helton, 85, died December 2, 2012 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. She was born on May 21, 1927 in Haviland, the daughter of Herschel and Nell (Akin) Jones.

Ima June was raised in Haviland, graduating from Haviland High School in 1945. On August 11, 1946, she married William "Bill" Helton in Haviland. He preceded her in death. They moved to Satanta in 1948 where the owned and operated the PIC Theater from 1951 to 1981. They also had the Ima Theater in Sublette for many years. Ima June served as city clerk for the City of Satanta for 14 years. In addition, she was also a partner and bookkeeper for Helton Flying Service. She enjoyed sports and music.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and attended the Methodist Church in Satanta.

Ima June is survived by four daughters, Kathy McCloskey of Lawrence, Billie Louk and husband Terry of Dodge City, Susan Cornell and companion Jerry Gilbert of Miami Beach, Florida, and Pam Brazell and husband Bruce of Corsicana, Texas; one sister, Vida Ruth Beck of Topeka; six grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. In addition to her husband, Bill, she is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Inez Underhill; and one brother, Joe Jones.

Graveside service will be held at Dudley Township Cemetery on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Craig Atkinson presiding. There will be no public visitation.
