Obituary

Ima Gene Mayfield, 91, died Monday, January 18, 2010 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains at Dodge City, KS. She was born on April 21, 1918 at Wellsford, KS the daughter of Elmer William and Viola (Knox) Winsor.

She married Virgil S. Mayfield on July 21, 1939 at Great Bend, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 13,1973. They lived and farmed at Ford, Kansas until moving to a farm west of Dodge City, Kansas in 1950. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was a volunteer for several organizations including blood mobile, cancer fund, election board, meals on wheels, a 4-H leader for 17 years and received recognition for volunteering 20 years for the American Heart Association. She enjoyed working with and helping other people. Ima was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxilary and lifetime member of the Ladies of The Moose Lodge. She belonged to IXL Extension Club of Ford, and several card clubs.She was also a member of the Happy Hour Extension Club.

Survivors include four daughters, Terry Swafford and husband Craig of Liberal, Wanda Morris and husband Jerry of Burleson, Texas, Janet Billings and husband Carl of Liberal, and Tammie Simon and husband Steve of Dodge City; two sisters, Lorene Reinert of Bucklin, Eula Smith of Hill City, as well as two sister in laws, Orrine Winsor of Dodge City and Irma Winsor of Minneola. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren,
18 great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, and five step grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Larry Mayfield; brothers, Vern Lee Winsor, Vernon Leo Winsor, Lloyd Winsor, Lorenzo Winsor, Roy Winsor, and Arlo Winsor; and one sister, Goldie Smith.

Graveside service will be held at Scroggins Mausoleum on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Allen Smith presiding. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, January 21, 2010 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Moose Heart in care of the funeral home.
