Obituary

Imogene Lorraine (Hap) Haffner, 88, died Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. She was born on August 27, 1920 at Hall Summitt, the daughter of Rollie and Essie(Earnshaw) Haffner.

Imogene graduated from Emporia High School in 1938. She attended the Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1942 and her Masters Degree in 1957. Miss Haffner taught high school in Burlington, Kansas from 1942-1944. In 1944, Imogene became a member of the Dodge City High School faculty where she taught until retiring in 1987. She taught Physical Education, sponsored the Dodge City High School Drill Team, coached girs' tennis, and served as a counselor at Dodge City High School from 1968-1987.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Dodge City, NEA, KNEA, and Dodge City NEA, Kansas School Counselors Association, member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma, member and past Secretary of the Retired Teachers Association and served on the Meals on Wheels Board of Directors.

Imogene is survived by her sister, Maryann VanSickle and husband Bud of Wichita; two nieces, Suzanne Eastman and husband Ron of Andover and Julie Cramm and husband Paul of Overland Park; two great nephews; Bryce Eastman and Alex Eastman both of Andover; and close friend, Jane Gregg of the home. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Monday, January 26, 2009 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Meals on Wheels or First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home. Personal Condolences may be left at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
