DODGE CITY - Ira Paul Dixon, Sr, 80, died January 12, 2012 at Trinity Manor Nursing Home, Dodge City. He was born on September 22, 1931 at Flat, Texas the son of Dennie D and Artie E. (Lambright) Dixon, Sr.
Ira worked for the Santa Fe railroad for 33 years where he was the supervisor of the Car department retiring in 1989. On June 1, 1958 he married Margie Dusek at Temple, Texas.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Flat, Texas, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Ira is survived by his wife, Margie Dixon of Dodge City; four sons, Dick Dixon and wife Sandy of Temple, Texas, Terry Dixon and wife Cathy of Raytown, Missouri, Gary Dixon and wife Debbie of Oskaloosa and Paul Dixon and wife Rose of Claremore, Oklahoma; two daughters, Gayleen Galloway of Temple, Texas and Connie Roth and husband Ben of Dodge City; brother, Dean Dixon of Temple, Texas; two sisters, Jerry Riley of Gatesville, Texas and Clara Saverino of Loma Linda, California; 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Kent Groethe presiding. In Lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Trinity Manor or Hospice of the Prairie both in care of the funeral home.
