MONTEZUMA - Irvin Eugene "Beefy" Marrs, 95, died December 27, 2018 at Regent Care Center in Woodlands, Texas. He was born on December 30, 1922 in Dodge City, the son of Chester I. and Edith Susan (Brock) Marrs.
Irvin graduated from Fowler High School in 1941. He enlisted with the Army Air Corps during World War II and proudly served his country. On April 12, 1944, Irvin married Genevieve Bargar in Cimarron. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2010. Beefy was a long time resident of Montezuma. Together with his wife, he owned and operated the Marrs AG grocery store and the Orbit Inn Restaurant in Montezuma for many years. Beefy was also a rural mail carrier with the United States Postal Service for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He moved to Texas to be closer to his children in 2011. Beefy's contagious smile will be missed by family and friends.
He was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church and a member of the Copeland American Legion for 70 years.
Beefy is survived by two children, Dianna Walker and husband Mike of Houston, Texas and Perrie Marrs of Port Aransas, Texas; daughter-in-law, Darla Marrs of Montezuma; two sisters, Pauline Golden of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Ella Mae Marrs of Greensburg; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Genevieve; son, Gary Marrs; one grandson, Brandon Marrs; and six brothers, Roscoe, Leo Raymond, Danny Ray, Richard, Chester Lloyd, and Lewis Marrs.
Funeral service will be held at Montezuma United Methodist Church on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Eddie Pennington presiding. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Montezuma Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
