IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jack Allen
Borth
February 11, 1936 – November 14, 2023
Copeland – Jack Allen Borth, 87, was born on February 11, 1936 in McPherson to Ben and Evelyn (Dean) Borth. On November 14, 2023, he passed away in Bethel Home with his family by his side.
Jack was born and raised on a farm near McPherson. He later graduated from McPherson High School. He received his college undergraduate degree from McPherson College and then went on to receive a Masters degree in Business from Emporia State University and also completed the Colorado School of Banking program in Boulder.
Jack and our mother, Jackie Borth, moved to Montezuma in 1958 where he began his teaching career. He taught business classes at Montezuma High School. In 1961, Jack accepted a position at the Montezuma State Bank, selling and servicing property/casualty and crop insurance as well as working on the banking side. In 1980, he purchased McReynolds Insurance Agency which later became Borth Crop Insurance. Dad was very proud that he had been in business for over 63 consecutive years on Main Street in Montezuma.
On December 27, 1986, he married Betty Borth at their home in Copeland. They spent 38 happy years together out on their property. They were able to travel to many exciting locations while he served on the United Telecommunications board for 25 years.
Dad grew up on the family farm and farmed with his dad, mother, and siblings. He attributed his acute hearing loss to the many hours spent operating the Allis-Chalmer Model U tractor as a kid. He also had a passion for hunting and trapping in his early years. He was masterfully skilled at fixing equipment if it broke down and was very mechanically inclined. Also, as most of you know, he loved collecting "stuff" and various other things and especially enjoyed attending auctions. He had a keen sense of the worth of items.
He is survived by his wife Betty Borth of Copeland, three sons, Jeff Borth, Jim Borth, and Joel Borth and fiancé, Carolyn Stacy all of Montezuma; grandson, Taylor Weibener and wife Natalie of Kingston, Oklahoma; great-granddaughter, Taylie Weibener of Kingston, Oklahoma; one brother, Bill Borth of Wheaton; two step-daughters, Cindy Surber of Olathe and Becky Chapple and husband Todd of Lawrence; two step-grandchildren, Darian and Lexi; and two step great-grandchildren. Jack is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jean Smith.
